EAL Level 2 certificate in Wire & Test Short Course (AUEC2-010)
This unit identifies the training and development required in order that the student can demonstrate that they are competent in being able to: Use and terminate a range of cables, such as single and multicore cables, screened cables, fire resistant and armoured cables.
Description
What you’ll learn
The student will be required to make a variety of terminations and to connect a range of electrical components, such as switches/switchgear, distribution panels, motors and starters, control systems, sensors and actuators, safety devices, and luminaires. Students will be required to select the appropriate tools, materials and equipment to use, based on the operations to be performed and the components to be connected. Students will be expected to use appropriate tools and techniques for the wiring of the various electrical components and connectors that make up the electrical system/circuit. In addition, they will be expected to make all necessary electrical connections to the switches, relays, sensors/actuators and other devices, as appropriate to the equipment and circuit being produced. The wiring and testing activities will include making all necessary checks and adjustments to the circuit, including continuity, polarity, insulation resistance values, and ensuring that the equipment functions to the specification.
Who is this course for
This course is aimed at Engineers that have a base understanding of electrical principles and provides a further base to up skill, or for those wanting to gain foundational practical skills, from non-electrical roles needing to understand basic electrical installation and fault-finding on machinery and equipment.
How you’ll be assessed
Assessment is done through knowledge-based questions and products of work combined with observations. The student will receive an EAL Level 2 certificate upon successful completion of the course.
Prerequisites
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, to ensure the safety of all participants and maintain the progression pace of the course, it is essential that candidates possess a baseline of "on-the-tool" experience.
This course is designed to formalise existing skills rather than teach basic manual dexterity from scratch.
