EAL Level 2 Certificate in Fitting Short Course (AUEC2-005)
This unit develops the skills and knowledge required to carry out hand fitting activities safely and effectively. Learners will prepare for tasks by obtaining and interpreting relevant information, drawings, and documentation while following health and safety requirements. They will use a range of hand tools and powered equipment to complete practical tasks using various materials to specification. Learners will also complete SOPs and knowledge-based assessments to demonstrate their understanding.
Description
What you’ll learn
The student will be required to select the appropriate equipment to use, based on the operations to be carried out and the accuracy required. In producing the components, Students will be expected to use appropriate tools and equipment to mark out the material for a range of features to be produced, and then to use hand tools, power tools such as Pedestal drills and grinders.
These activities will include hand sawing, band sawing, filing, drilling, threading, and off- hand grinding.
The components produced will have features that include flat, square, parallel and angular faces, radii and curved profiles, drilled holes, internal and external threads, and sliding or mating parts. During, and on completion of, the fitting operations, students will be expected to check the quality of the workpiece, using a broad range measuring equipment appropriate to the aspects being checked and the tolerances to be achieved. Students will need to be able to recognise fitting defects, to take appropriate action to remedy any faults that occur and to ensure that the finished workpiece is within the drawing specification.
Who is this course for
This course is aimed at persons who require a good understanding of the correct use of hand tools within the engineering sector.
How you’ll be assessed
Assessment is done through knowledge-based questions and products of work combined with observations. The learner will receive an EAL Level 2 certificate upon completion of the course.
Prerequisites
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
