What you’ll learn
Our basic electrical maintenance course enables non-electrical personnel to carry out simple electrical tasks safely and efficiently and be able to identify electrical faults.
- Isolating and testing supplies in line with the requirements of the EAWR and GS 38
- Using common electrical test instruments safely and efficiently
- Reading typical electrical drawings
- Reading motor rating plates
- Identifying and connecting industrial motors
- Use and understand electrical terminology
- Apply the principles of electrical safety
- State the basic requirements of Electricity at Work Regulations
- Use and understand simple electrical drawings
- Recognise and select appropriate types of fuses
- Connect and disconnect industrial three phase motors
- Test industrial phase motors
- Use and fault find on simple electrical motor starting systems
Who is this course for
This course is intended for individuals who already have a basic understanding of electrical principles and wish to develop practical skills in basic electrical maintenance.
How you’ll be assessed
You will be assessed through the work products you produce during the course, including practical tasks, completed exercises, and evidence of applied skills in basic electrical maintenance activities.
The student will receive a Training 2000 certificate upon successful completion of the course.
Prerequisites
To ensure the safety of all participants and maintain the progression pace of the course, it is essential that candidates possess a baseline of "on-the-tool" experience.
This course is designed to formalize existing skills rather than teach basic manual dexterity from scratch.
- Tool Proficiency: Competence with trade-specific hand tools, including side cutters, wire strippers, and various drive-tip screwdrivers.
- Technical Literacy: Ability to identify harmonized wiring colours (Brown, Blue, Green/Yellow) and follow basic point-to-point wiring diagrams.
